I agree with Dick that the conditions were not idea. The colder temperatures did tend to keep the bird activity decent through most of the day, it was just difficult locating things in the wind. I was in the field from roughly 6 AM until 9:15 PM and Kristy joined me from 7 AM until noon. We were able to tally 109 species for the day. This is only my second year counting in Marion so I am still figuring out how to best utilize my time in the field.

With the bad weather, I only took my camera out twice. At one point the sun almost came out and I was lucky enough to spot this Black-billed Cuckoo trying to dry itself out:

I had three new species for the township that I have never recorded before (on count day or otherwise). The first was a nice Forester's Tern on Crooked Lake. I had overdue Orchard Orioles at the Marion Township Hall property. The third was a Short-billed Dowitcher that was a real surprise as it was in the water run off ponds from the Parker Middle School parking lots. The water level in these ponds was very high and I didn't expect to see much of anything in them and this guy looked like it was actually resting on floating vegetation:
