Thanks to all who participated in the Hartland Christmas Bird Count held on 12/16/17 this year. We came in with 60 species with two additional count week species, ahead of our 50.3, 42 year species average. Highlight this year was a new addition to our count, a Golden Eagle found and well documented by Patrick Wright. A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was probably the next best bird located by Anna Walker's group, only the 5th record for this species. Although Bald Eagle was found this year by my team for only the 4th count record, I feel that this species is on the rise in our area and should start to be observed more regularly.

Here are the results:

A final update. Species total remains at 60, but we added a few count week birds. Both Lesser and Greater Scaup (thanks Sean), Gadwall and Ring-necked Duck were all observed on Lake Chemung during the count period. Maybe next year they will stand up and be counted on count day....

Thanks again to all the participants. Next years count should be Saturday 12/15/18 so mark your calendars!
