We had 13 observers in the field and one feeder watcher on 12/17/2016 and managed to tally 59 species during the count and to date have two additional count week species (Ring-billed Gull and Bufflehead). We counted 8017 individual birds. These numbers are high compared to our 42 year count average of 50.1 species and 6391 individuals. No new species were added this year and there were no new high counts for any particular species. This was only the second year for Trumpeter Swan, third year for Merlin with Pileated Woodpecker coming in next with its 6th year of record. Next years count will be December 16th, so mark your calendars early!

Update, we are now up to 61 species thanks to a feeder report that came in which added Grackle and Sharp-shinned Hawk. I will post a final count next week. If you know of any other species during count week other than Bufflehead and Ring-billed Gull, please let me know.
